Overview
The Engineers Day Log in YMS is an Excel-based electronic logbook that allows you to complete daily engine room logs using a familiar spreadsheet format. Because the Day Log is built on Microsoft Excel, you can create and customize your own templates using powerful Excel features such as formulas, drop down lists, conditional formatting, data validation, and more, while still benefiting from YMS integration and data management.
Creating a Day Log Entry
-
Navigate to the Engineers Day Log module from the main navigation.
-
Click New Entry.
-
A new Day Log will be created from your configured template and automatically populated with today's date.
-
Complete the Day Log by entering the required information.
-
Once you have finished, click Save to create the Day Log entry.
Copying a Day Log Entry
If much of the information in your Day Log remains the same from one day to the next, you can save time by using Copy Last.
-
Navigate to the Engineers Day Log module and click Copy Last.
-
YMS will create a new Day Log using your most recent entry. All values from the previous Day Log will be copied across and the Date will automatically be updated to today's date.
-
Review the copied information, update any values that have changed, and then click Save to create the new Day Log entry.
Polling AMCS
If your vessel's AMCS monitoring system is integrated with YMS, you can automatically populate your Day Log with live equipment readings using the Poll AMCS function.
-
Open a new Day Log or an existing Day Log for today's date.
-
Click Poll AMCS.
-
YMS will connect to the configured AMCS system and retrieve the latest values using the mappings configured in the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Any mapped cells within the Day Log will be automatically populated with the live data returned by the AMCS system.
-
Review the imported values, enter any remaining information manually, and then click Save to store the completed Day Log.
AMCS Integration & Mapping Required
The Poll AMCS button only populates cells that have been configured in the AMCS Polling section of the Engineers Day Log Utility. See Settings - Engineers Day Log Utility for more details.
Equipment Hour Updates
When you save a Day Log entry, YMS can automatically update the running hours of equipment based on the values entered in the Day Log.
-
Any cells that have been mapped to equipment in the Engineers Day Log Utility will be processed when the Day Log is saved. If the value entered is greater than the equipment's current running hours, YMS will automatically update the equipment record.
Equipment Hour Mapping Required
Only Cells in the Day Log that have been mapped to update an equipment’s hours will be processed when a day log is saved. See Settings - Engineers Day Log Utility for more details.
