Overview
The Engineers Day Log Utility provides the tools required to manage the Day Log template and configure mapping. From a single location, administrators can:
-
Download the existing and Upload a mew Day Log template.
-
Map Day Log cells to Equipment so running hours are updated automatically.
-
Map AMCS tags to Day Log cells so live monitoring data can be polled directly into the Day Log.
Application Administrator
To Access the Engineers Day Log Utility you need to be logged in as a user with “Application Administrator“ User Permissions.
Managing the Template
The Engineers Day Log uses an Excel Spreadsheet that acts as the blank starting point for every new Day Log entry. The template is managed from the Engineers Day Log Utility.
Downloading the Current Template
To download the current Day Log template:
-
Navigate to the the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Click the Download Template Button.
The downloaded file can be modified as need and re-imported should you need to make changes to your template.
Uploading a New Template
To upload a new template:
-
Open the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Select Import Template.
-
Choose the new template froim your file system.
The uploaded file immediately becomes the template used the next time you create a New Day Log, Please note that Copying the Last Day Log will not use the new Template, it will copy the last existing Day Log file..
Important
If the template layout changes by adding, removing or moving rows or columns, any existing Equipment or AMCS mappings may no longer reference the correct cells. Always review and update your mappings after replacing the template.
Mapping Equipment Hours
Equipment Mappings identify which cells within the Day Log contain running hour values for specific pieces of equipment.
Adding an Equipment Hours Mapping
-
Open the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Navigate to the Equipment Hours Tab.
-
Select New Mapping.
-
Choose the desired Equipment from the Dropdown list.
-
Note: Only Equipment Monitoring Hours appear in the dropdown.
-
-
Select the corresponding Cell in the Day Log Template & Press Save.
Repeat this process for each item of equipment you want to update automatically.
Editing or Removing Equipment Mappings
To edit a mapping:
-
Navigate to the Equipment Hours Tab in the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Select the Edit Pencil button on the desired Mapping in the grid.
-
Select the new Cell reference to map to the Equipment.
-
Select Save.
To remove a mapping:
-
Navigate to the Equipment Hours Tab in the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Select the Delete button on the desired Mapping in the Grid.
-
Confirm the deletion.
How It Works
When a Day Log is saved:
-
YMS reads each mapped spreadsheet cell.
-
The value is compared against the related equipment's current running hours.
-
If the new value is higher than the existing hours, the equipment hours are updated.
Mapping AMCS Polling
If your vessel has integrated YMS with an AMCS monitoring system, you can retrieve live monitoring data and automatically populate the Day Log.
Each AMCS Mapping links a monitoring system tag to a specific Day Log cell.
Adding an AMCS Mapping
-
Open the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Navigate to the AMCS Polling tab.
-
Select New Mapping.
-
Enter the desired AMCS Tag.
-
Select the corresponding Cell in your Template.
-
Select Save.
Repeat for every monitoring value you want to populate automatically.
AMCS Tags
The AMCS Tag must exactly match the tag configured within your vessel's AMCS monitoring system. These tags are defined and managed by your AMCS provider. YMS simply requests the live value for the tag you specify. If the tag is incorrect, misspelled, or does not exist, YMS will be unable to retrieve the correct data and will return incorrect or no reading.
Testing AMCS Polling
You can verify AMCS Polling using the test functionality to confirm readings are returned as expected from the Day Log Utility
-
Navigate to the AMCS Polling Tab in the Engineers Day Log Utility.
-
Click the “Test” Button.
-
Review the readings that are populated in the “Returned Value“ column in the grid.
Editing or Removing AMCS Mappings
To edit a mapping:
-
From the AMCS Polling Tab.
-
Select the mapping to be updated.
-
Update the cell reference or AMCS tag.
-
Select Save.
To remove a mapping:
-
Select the Delete button from the desired mapping in the grid.
-
Confirm the deletion.
Removing a mapping prevents that tag from being polled into future Day Log entries. Existing Day Logs are unaffected.
How It Works
When you are in edit mode on a Day Log, you can press the AMCS Polling button to populate the mapped cells with the live values from the corresponding AMCS Tags as configured in the Engineers Day Log Utility.
